My own sheep and wool festival

Wednesday, October 24, 2007

While everyone and their cats were at Rhinebeck this past weekend, I was at WEBS. I had a strict game plan, I had a strict list, I had a strict timeline to keep the store experience to under 15 minutes. Any longer than that and my system starts to shut down. Still, from the second I stepped inside my mouth got real dry, my brain couldn't distinguish between sport and aran weight, acrylic from wool, I couldn't add or multiply, I couldn't read, I couldn't decide, I became color-blind. It was horrible.

I can't imagine what a few minutes at Rhinebeck would have done to my health. I don't want to know. I want to stay sane for a little while longer.

So this is what I managed to crawl away with from WEBS.

Garden Silk Lite

Noro Garden Silk I mean Silk Garden Lite, enough for 3 pairs of thicky socks. I wasn't going to do Christmas knitting this year but changed my mind.

My first Malabrigo

Malabrigo worsted in Azul Profundo. My first Malabrigo! I'm so into blue, I'm so into this blue. They only had 4 skeins so I'm not sure if I can squeeze a simple sweater out of this, but I'm gonna try.

Remember my decree at the beginning of the year that I would not buy any more yarn for the rest of the year? I had included sock yarn in that decree, which was pretty stupid and is anyone surprised that I lasted for about a second. But aside from sock yarn, I pretty much adhered to the rules of the game: no new yarns purchased at all - until just this weekend.

Not too bad!

Good on you for keeping your decree for as long as you did! I don't think I'd be able to resist that Malabrigo either. It's like buttah.

Oh, yeah! That Azul Profundo is something special alright. I had it in laceweight. Malabrigo: what a great way to go off the ranch.

Aw! You're making me socks for Christmas!?!?! COOL!

Will you go to Rhinebeck next year if I go? :)

15 minutes for Webs? Ha! They were my lys when I learned to knit, and my first time there was the most overwhelming experience ever.

I love your photo of the noro skeins, so vibrant!

I love the Noro (and the Malabrigo, too). I've never used it myself, but I loooove the colors.

Edit: Did I post this like four times? It keeps bringing me back to the place where I have to prove I'm not a robot...

The Malabrig brought me out of lurkdom - I love that stuff. I just bought a skein of their lace weight in "Sealing Wax." I've got no plans for it, I just needed it in the collection.
I'd also like to say thanks for publishing an interesting read complete with lovely photos.
Cheers!

I have a big crush on Malabrigo, and your blue is gorgeous! And if you're looking for a sweater, I made Tempting (Knitty, Winter 05?) with 3 skeins of it.

Try their website - they still have 1 skein in Azul Profundo (among other shades)

Good luck :-)

That shade of blue Malabrigo is so pretty. I have Knitty's Foliage on the needles using my first skein of Malabrigo in Velvet Grapes. It's so squishy soft. It'll be tough giving it up as a Christmas gift.

Delurking, too, to comment on the Malabrigo. I just knit something for the first time (on the way to Rhinebeck) with their worsted and it's glorious. I wound up picking up some skeins of their variegated worsted at the festival.

A sweater will be luscious in this yarn. Can't wait to see what you do.

Oh! What's the colorway on the second skein from the left (SGL)?? Yum! Hey, Girl on the Rocks is having a contest that you might be able to use this post for. :)
