Christmas Tree

Wednesday, December 12, 2007

Over the weekend we got a tree. They were selling them just a couple of blocks from our place so we were able pick it out and then carry it back, me holding the trunk, Duck holding the tip. We pretended we had just cut it down ourselves.

Lighting the tree

We don't have a tree every year, and so we don't have a lot of ornaments. The ones we do have we bought during after-Christmas sales at Michaels, and even then I don't like spending my money that way. So I'm always trying to find other ways to decorate the tree without breaking the bank.

Letterpress gift tags

I came across these beautiful letterpress gift tags at Black Ink the other day. They come in a package of 5, complete with little holes punched at top and a small packet of pretty string. The paper is thick, the design is simple, but all in all way too nice to be used as gift tags.

So I repurposed them into ornaments.

Ornaments

Yay.

heehee - what's the story behind the Eat Beef (or Eat Bees?) ornament?

Your tree is gorgeous!

The first time I had a tree of my own I couldn't afford the ornaments, so I grabbed some origami paper (I had been give a huge amount as a gift) and made origami cranes. I think I still have one or two left that I try to put on the tree :)

Clever and lovely idea! I'm especially fond of the pretending you cut down the tree bit. :)

Those ornaments are adorable. I especially love the picture with putting up the lights, and the way that the movement comes across in the camera.

I certainly hope it's eat beef. Eating bees just sounds painful for everyone involved.

What a great idea! I too hope it's eat beef and not eat bees. :)

The tree looks so great! Good idea on the paper ornaments, they look great and don't break the bank. :) That's my main impediment to putting up a tree, I don't have enough ornaments! (My Mom said I can't have all my childhood ones until I get married...maybe she thinks that will motivate me?)

Great idea!

LOVE the paper ornaments. I inherited all my childhood ornaments when I got married, so for the last couple years we've had styrofoam lollipops and somewhat origami-esque paper dolls and some weird looking thing that I *think* is meant to be a mouse, but whatever. Might be time for some new ornaments....

Your tree is beautiful. I am definitely a fan of the all-white lights. :D

Three cheers for mitten ornaments! (And I want to know the backstory on EAT BEEF, too - it looks like a piggy, so I get the joke, but it's not exactly holiday themed, eh?) I'm hoping I can convince my parents to cut a little tree on their property and drive it five hours to my city house. Somehow, having grown up in the woods, I just can't countenance buying a one.

Okay, those mitten ornaments are the cutest thing I've seen in ages!
Just lovely.

More festive than these plastic-ey trees I see in the crummy craft stores. What is UP with those??

Love your tree you guys! :)

What a great idea! And they're so cute!

And the "Eat Beef" ornament makes me giggle. :)
