Weekend outfit

Monday, April 30, 2007

I like to knit. And to layer.
My outfit I wore this past weekend to a little house party,
topped off with a dash of Chevron Scarf.

Not all knitted projects work out the way you might initially envision it to,* but I don't think I would knit at all if I didn't like some of what I make enough to wear it out in public.

The Apricot Jacket is nearly two years old. It's practically vintage, and given the haphazard way I "sewed" on the buttons, I can't believe that small children haven't yet choked any! And how little the yarn has pilled! Go Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece, go!

Do you wear what you knit?

* Some FO's that have departed to the Great Knitted Graveyard in the Sky:
Electra, due to poor color choice and ill fit (I gave it away).
Ballet Top from Loop-d-Loop, due to incredibly stretched-out fabric that led to unflattering drape.
Tank from Rebecca 29, due to undeniable fugliness. What was I thinking with that one?

Gorgeous scarf! I do try to wear what I knit. If I don't wear it within 6 months, it goes to goodwill.

The jacket still looks fabulous, especially with that scarf! Love love love Cotton Fleece. :)

Ah, I am still love love loving that chevron scarf. :)

I've been wanting to try the Cotton Fleece--and this is the best endorsement I've seen yet. Apricot still looks brand-new!

Love the layering! :) That jacket is sweet, too.

Love the Apricot Jacket! Ditto for layering.

Very cool outfit, and I love the non-curling chevron scarf. I'm on the lookout for some chevron-appropriate yarn.

Very cute!!

Being a newcomer to blogland I've never seen the Apricot Jacket before, but it's beautiful! I have a goal to create a cardi that gets worn that much but still looks so spankin' new :)

I do wear what I knit, but so far that's mostly hats and scarves and socks and the like.

Oh yes, I wear what I make as long as it fits and works. Some get a lot more wear than others. i enjoy the process of knitting, but definitely want something I'll like to wear (and ideally that people will compliment me on - full disclosure, i like the positive attention when this works out!)

That is gorgeous! love your style....I may have to look into making one of those Apricots for myself...hmmm :)

I love the weekend out look! The AJ is still a classic. Eventually I'll have to make one.

I wear my knits all the time. There are inevitably losers - things you thought would be great at the time that end up "meh," but those get weeded out and the others get worn. I try to show my favorites in action on the blog as well in my "knits in action" category. Hopefully that way other knitters have an idea of what works. I think the combo above will be working for a while!

I hate to admit it but my knits only see very occational wear with the exception of my scarves and socks.
That cardigan looks really terrific on you! that is awesome that it has held up so well. The color is perfct on you too.

So pretty. You are looking good in those knits, lady-- :)

And thanks for the Ballet T warning re: stretch. I had this on my to-make list.

Wow, you look great! The sweater looks like you knit it yesterday and it's stylish too.

Such a great way to pair your knits! Looking sharp! :)

That sweater looks fantastic!!! I've never tried BS Cotton Fleece but I've been tempted. It's good to know that it doesn't sag like so many cottons. Too bad about the other FOs. I don't think that Rebecca tank is all that bad but I'll take your word for it. Lord knows that you can't wear a FO if you're not happy with how it turned out. I wear a lot of my handknit scarves but honestly, I don't knit much for myself. My goal this year is to keep more of the socks that I make. I will wear handknit socks. I haven't been sweater knitting for a while now but I'd like to get back to it. I'm super picky about my sweaters so it would take me a while to find the perfect pattern/yarn combo.

Love your outfit and I absolutely love your scarf. Most of what I've made are scarves since I'm still a beginner/intermediate knitter. I wear them all the time, especially during freezing evening ballgames. The chevron scarf made with sock yarn will be on my knitting to do list...it looks light enough to wear during a summer night out. I'm currently using cotton fleece to make a top. I'm glad to know it wears well.

Very nice and stylish, love those knits and your layering. Maybe I really should go cracking on my unfinished AJ for the summer now ;o)
Tuesday, May 01, 2007 12:25:03 PM (Eastern Standard Time, UTC-05:00)
These days, I love to wear what I knit, but I, too, have had to "donate" some fuglies that just didn't turn out right or went out of style, or became mishapen. I think it's best to clear it out and move on. Life is too short. I do love your Apricot cardi. I've always wanted to make it, but I heard there were some problems with the pattern.
Tuesday, May 01, 2007 12:28:32 PM (Eastern Standard Time, UTC-05:00)
I'm still in love with my first sweater... if I could only get all of the pills off of it. Yes, I wear my knits.

Great outfit! Very now.

I do try to wear what I knit - and I've been doing better with this in the last couple of years, mostly because I think I make better choices of which projects to make. But a lot of the older projects I've either frogged and reused the yarn or given them away. Too bad about your ballet T-shirt - that's a pattern I've considered but have held off because I was worried about the problem of stretching and weight. But I love your Apricot jacket - particulary in that pretty blue.

Very stylish in a retro/vintage kinda way. Love it!
Tuesday, May 01, 2007 8:27:02 PM (Eastern Standard Time, UTC-05:00)
Great outfit. I somehow have missed seeing the Apricot Jacket anywhere before. I love it; it's on my list now.
Tuesday, May 01, 2007 8:47:48 PM (Eastern Standard Time, UTC-05:00)
love the weekend outfit!! great colors. :) I haven't really made anything like a sweater/shawl to be worn but I have a ton of scarves and a couple pairs of socks and they do get worn. :)
Tuesday, May 01, 2007 11:09:48 PM (Eastern Standard Time, UTC-05:00)
Love that jacket and scarf combo. Great colors. I do wear what I knit, though some items get worn largely in the privacy of my own home, due to bleh shaping, fuzzball yarn, or some combination of the two. Scarves and hats and mittens get worn A LOT, and often in weird combinations, 'cause they make me laugh.

The way you've layered the Apricot Jacket annd the color you used make me want to try this, now! I've always liked the pattern, but usually it winds up looking pretty conservative. I love your funky take on this design!
Wednesday, May 02, 2007 9:38:56 AM (Eastern Standard Time, UTC-05:00)
I love that Chevron scarf! Nice job on the layering as well. I'm a big fan of layering!

I'm actually working on my first garment woohoo! So I hope I will wear it lots. It's Orangina and I first saw it on your blog. You did such on awesome job on your's, that I had to make one for myself.

gorgeous gorgeous jacket
Friday, May 04, 2007 9:35:58 AM (Eastern Standard Time, UTC-05:00)
Don't you love that feeling of going on in an FO that you like? I'm lusting over both of yours. I feel some copycat kntting coming on!
Friday, May 04, 2007 10:41:34 AM (Eastern Standard Time, UTC-05:00)
I'm new to the Apricot party--must scurry off to bookmark the pattern. The whole outfit is genius. The crafty-yet-sophisticated thing is hard to pull off, but you've done it.
Wednesday, May 09, 2007 1:08:12 PM (Eastern Standard Time, UTC-05:00)
I wear what I knit every day :p On the good days I'm wearing hand knit socks, mittens, hat, scarf and sweater. Today I am wearing a demin knit jacket (from Demin people) and a mostly my own pattern tank. Okay there are some sweaters I've worn but once or twice while I have others I live in. My apricot jacket never made to the button stage...bad crochet edge issue

I wear my Apricot Jacket more than any other handknit item. Love that thing - so flattering, goes with everything, and the Rowan Calmer has held up really well. I love the blue of yours!
Tuesday, May 22, 2007 3:22:08 AM (Eastern Standard Time, UTC-05:00)
I've seen this cardi many times before, but I especially like yours! It has a nice colour too!
