The Red Sox are finito

Tuesday, August 22, 2006

Well, just the one sock. The actual Red Sox are the ones that are finished. Because of this the spirit of completing the Red Socks has left me, if only temporarily. I am sad. It is not fun to knit socks in honor of a baseball team that SUCKS. Don't you know I knit for winners only! So when they start winning let's say, ONE GAME IN A ROW, then I will start on the second sock. I don't think that's too much to ask. Or is it?!

I just realized that washing these bad boys may result in a dye-bleeding tragedy. How am I going to prevent the toes and heels from turning pink? Unless they never got washed, ever? Hmmm.

Have you seen those Woolite dye magnets? You're supposed to be able to prevent bleeding by throwing that in the wash. One of my friends knitted a sweater out of Rowan denim--dark blue with a white star and the star stayed white.

Love those socks, by the way!

ths socks look great, pity about the sox though.

you could try synthrapol

"Synthrapol as the afterwash keeps loose dye particles in suspension so they don't stain other areas of the fabric."

I hear yah on the suck-factor of a baseball team. I've been watching my team, the Giants, get spanked by the NL West.

Don't try the synthrapol on this one, try the dye magnet thingy. Trust me on this one.

Ooh, these are sweet. I am still sock-challenged, but these have inspired me to get moving on the whole sock business.

No tips on keeping away the pink, but the socks are cool.

I have to agree with purly whites, try a dye magnet, cold water and prayer. I've had good luck with all three.

Shout makes some things called "Color Catchers". They are sheets that look like dryer sheets. They come in a box in the laundry section of the store. I use those things religiously when washing "bleedy" items and they are a godsend.

I'll add my vote to the dye magnet/color catcher things. They do a great job. Synthrapol, not so much.

hey, you could always make the other sock blue and orange in honor of the METS. just a thought. (sorry, thanks to my husband, i've been a rabid fan ever since that ball rolled through bill buckner's red sox.)

p.s. love your new masthead!
